Activity Overview

An intermediate level hike for Scouts and older in the Budawangs - Morton National Park from Wog Wog to Burrumbeet Brook camp site or nearby camp caves and return. Distance approx 13km each day. Extensive views from Corang Peak. This hike is not suitable for younger or unfit hikers. There will the ample opportunities for OAS badgework and progression of adult bushwalking qualifications.

This activity is being organised by the Hume Region Activity Team.

The activity is open to current Scout members whom must have OAS Camping Level 3 and OAS Bushwalking Level 3.

This hike is rated Medium difficulty. This hike is not suitable for younger or unfit hikers. There will the ample opportunities for OAS badgework and progression of adult bushwalking qualifications.

Participants are to organise suitable transport for themselves and all their equipment. Carpooling may be arranged by parents and/or Leaders attending, but Youth will need to be ready at the 1st Narellan Scout hall, ready to leave by 4pm. Petrol money is generally organised within the member Scout group.

If carpooling, pack a full change of clothes, shoes. deodorant, etc separately (in a plastic bag) that can remain with the cars until required for the journey home.

- This is a self-cater activity. Make sure that you know how to use your cooking equipment and how cook your meals.

- Make sure your back pack FITS properly and that it is not too heavy. Pack everything inside the back pack, including the bedding roll mat. Use light weight camping and cooking. 

- Some equipment may be borrowed from 1st Narellan Scout Group. Alternatively (and /or to hire additional equipment), a file containing a list of equipment available for hire from the Hume Region Activities Team may be downloaded from the Scout Event form. A modest hire fee applies.

- NO open cooking fires are permitted. Gas, liquid and Solid fuel stoves are acceptable.

- There are NO toilet facilities, need to bring cat hole shovel (for toilet). There are toilets at the car park (Friday night campsite).

- We plan on staying overnight at a camping cave. You may not need a tent however; hikers MUST take some form of shelter in case we don’t get to the cave. The floor of camping caves is generally hard and dusty.

- You will need to start with 1.5 – 2.5 litres of water depending on the weather. There should be water available from river and creeks near the camp site. Use water purification filter system or chemical treatment I.E Puritabs or Micropur.

- NO plastic ponchos or plastic rain coats please. The friendly bush will tear the material.

- Carry emergency food ration (1 day). This is NOT an option.

- Participants must bring suitable: 

• Hiking style tent that may be shared (same gender)
• Sunglasses, hat and clothes while paddling providing protection from the weather elements including the sun, wind and rain.
• Enclosed shoes, e.g. hiking boots - no thongs, sandals or crocs.
• Sun protection (T shirt or rashy, board shorts, hat, sunscreen)
• Wet weather gear.
• Change of clothes & shoes while at camp

• • First aid kit. Sun burn cream, toiletries, compass, torch,
  • Suitable sleeping bag and sleeping mat.

- The weather can be very cold and wet at this time of year. We are still going if it is raining. It is good practice not to wear cotton or jeans in wet weather.

- We will talk to you about conglomerate rocks which become particularly slippery when they get wet.

- Important: No hiker is to walk or climb on to the natural feature known as “Corang arch”

The Activity will be postponed if:

- there is a "severe weather warning" posted

- National Parks announces a Hazard Reduction Fire in the local area.  

- National Parks announces a feral animal eradication program (other than baiting) in the local area.  

- crossing of Wog Wog Creek is deemed unsafe.  

Drivers. The distance from Campbelltown to Wog Wog Camp site is approx 200km (one way) which takes about 2 ½ hrs. Use caution as there are numerous wombats and kangaroos crossing the road. Consider stopping at Marulan service centre for a rest.

From Marulan, driving on country roads, via Bungonia, Oallen Ford and Charleys Forest Road takes about approx 1 hour. Charleys Forest Road. to the Wog Wog camping area /car park is dirt/gravel.
